BillMax questions -- service definitions

Billmax docs state that service definitions are "Service
definitions define your recurring price plans."
Does that mean people are not defining any service definition for 1-time
sales and are instead entering the sale via some other mean?

IE:  If a customer purchases a DSL modem (1 time equipment
charge),  how are people handling that?

It seems that there can be a 1-time non-renewing service definition for
this, or it can be as a "entered charge" from the account
screen.  Just looking for ideas/suggestions.
